l’AGA-video #3: Overthrow

I have got a hunch trend report. About coats. Allow me to put my trend forecaster hat on and I will tell you all about it. After looking in my flippd over fish bowl doing my sophisticated techical and fundamental analysis I saw a great future for double breasted outerwear, idle (over)coat sleeves, more belted contraptions, all of them the result of hey-me-too-ism contagion from current women’s fashions. I see total overkill of all three phenomena at the upcoming biannual peacockery gala in Firenze. And, in case you want to keep deluding yourself you only care for style, and definitely, certainly, surely are not just another fashion lemming, use the video above (or this post) to justify your hugely impractical A/W ‘13/’14 overthrow.

l’AGA-video #2: Simple shit is simple

In the old days kings and (merchant) princes arrived by horse carriage. In modern times they are choppered in. Really, they are. Are you a prince or do you fashion yourself one? Dress up the entrance, dress down the clothes. Case in point above: chino, green long sleeved tennis shirt and suede hiking boots. Gianni Agnelli at Palazzo Te, Mantova. Summer 1989.

l’AGA-video #1: Le vieillard ~ il vecchio ~ the grey fox

Ton sur ton ~ tinta su tinta ~ tone on tone. Whatever you like to call it, let’s enjoy the greyness ehrm, greatness that was l’avvocato Gianni Agnelli. Even the slicked back Italo curls are colour coordinated at this point. Ah, the lack of colour, crazy patterns, 'tis the II&IS way. Since this post is about blind adoration - no barbed comments today -  the next and more important item on the fanboy list: marvelling at the multilingual eloquence. Fluent English and French - benefit of a patrician upbringing - no accent, no stuttering, no stammering. Unlike the Italo-English of protégé Luca C. di M. and nephew Lapo E.’s aphasia, probably caused by overconsumption of Bolivian marching powder. I think the display of linguistic mastery is more of a gentleman-maker than any piece of textile will ever be. Integral version of an rather uncritical interview (no tough questions, no follow ups) with Gianni Agnelli from the1970s. From the Archivio Nazionale del Cinema d’Impresa.
